DIY: It’s time to file your Step 1 forms!

First: Gather your materials & prep your forms

Decide how you want to file

Decide if you are going to e-file your forms, mail them to the court, or go to the court in person to file them. You can find out which court you need to file with on the top left-hand corner of your completed Petition form. If you’re going to e-file, go HERE to do so.

Print & sign all your completed forms

Click here to access all your completed forms. Review them all carefully to make sure they’re correct, then sign and date each one where needed.

Make (3) copies of your signed forms

Make three copies of your forms after you’ve signed them. You’ll be mailing these copies or taking them to the court to file.

Prepare your filing fee

Typically, the Petition costs $230, and the Response costs $116. If you feel you can’t afford to pay this fee, click here to see if you are eligible for a fee waiver.

If you do feel like you qualify for a fee waiver, you can start that form here.

Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope

If you are going to mail the forms, you’ll need to include a self-addressed stamped envelope so you can have your copy returned to you.

Mail or take your forms to the court

Once you mail or take your forms to the court, you’ve filed!
