Ms. Levine will accept the award in person at the ABA TECHSHOW in Chicago on February 26.
Divorce can be complicated on its own, even before the impending legal process begins. Erin understood this, and saw a need. She set out to create a streamlined and affordable way to alleviate the stress and stigma associated with divorce.
Erin exemplifies the spirit of the James I. Keane Memorial Award for Excellence in eLawyering by demystifying the legal options for divorce, while making them affordable and accessible using the latest technology.

“Winning this award is an exciting testament to our work at Hello Divorce to make the legal system more accessible to everyone. Here in California, the average cost of a traditional divorce is $27,000, per person. At Hello Divorce, our innovative technology combined with on-demand, flat-rate help from top-rated California attorneys has reduced the average cost of divorce to just $1,500. We’re proud of our work to help people move to their next chapter more efficiently and affordably,” said Ms. Levine.
While the articles and resources on Hello Divorce are available and relevant to anyone divorcing in the United States, legal services and paperwork generating features have only been available to those divorcing in California. But in 2020, that’s changing:
“This award also comes at a pivotal moment for Hello Divorce, as we get ready to move in to our next chapter. I’m delighted to share that we’ll be expanding our legal tech platform to Texas in 2020, helping more people in more places get access to a better way to divorce,” added Levine.
The James I. Keane Memorial Award has been presented since 2008 and honors the work of James I. Keane, who served as founding Chair of the ABA Law Practice Division eLawyering Task Force. Created in 2000, the Task Force examines ways for lawyers to utilize the internet and other electronic resources to deliver legal services more effectively and efficiently to everyday people of modest means.
