Why Does Hello Divorce Use Flat-Rate Fees?

At Hello Divorce, we often talk about our “flat-rate fees.” What exactly do we mean?

Traditional divorce costs thousands of dollars – sometimes tens of thousands of dollars. This is a huge problem for society and a barrier to the health and well-being of many people who simply do not wish to be married anymore. Our affordable pricing system is the solution.

The amount you pay for a Hello Divorce plan or service is the final cost. There will be no unexpected price hikes. And, you choose the services you want while skipping (and not paying for) those you don’t.

When you pay a flat rate for one of our plans or services, you know upfront what you’re going to get and how much it costs. The price tag never changes.

We think it’s important to keep divorce affordable

We cringe when we hear people say things like this:

  • “Divorce lawyers are too expensive. I’m stuck.”
  • “I have to choose between staying married and going bankrupt.”
  • “I’m miserable, but I can’t afford to get divorced.”

We offer flat rates because making divorce affordable is a core part of our mission. We don’t want you to feel trapped. We don’t want you to feel deprived of happiness because divorce lawyers charge so much money. Life is short, and we want your one precious life to be the best it can be.

Divorce truths we’ve learned

After 17 years of legal practice, we’ve learned some compelling truths about mainstream “traditional” divorce. These truths drive our mission. Here are some of the biggest ones:

  • Only one in four Americans can afford the $15,000 to $20,000 price tag of traditional divorce.
  • Divorcing people don’t just need legal advice. They need financial support, emotional support, and lots of logistical help as well.
  • No divorcing person wants to deal with a long, stressful, expensive legal mess.

With Hello Divorce, you get what you need

Some couples need just a little bit of guidance to move their uncontested divorce through the legal system. Other couples need a lot of help, from deciding how to divide their property to formulating a child custody and alimony plan.

Online divorce plans

Our tiered pricing system allows you to purchase a basic DIY plan for just $400, a Pro plan for $1,500 that provides additional help to one spouse, a Plus plan for $2,500 that provides assistance to both spouses, or a Cooperative plan for $3,500 that includes everything in the Plus plan along with five hours of professional mediation to help you hash out things like property division and child custody.

Regardless of which plan you choose, it’ll cost you far less than the $15,000 to $20,000 divorce cost mentioned above.

A la carte divorce servies

If you need add-on services, we provide those at flat rates, too. For example:

These aren’t the only a la carte services we offer. You can also get professional help with mandatory financial disclosures, an attorney review of your marital settlement agreement, or professional drafting of a postnuptial agreement for a flat fee. Click here to get an overview of the a la carte services we offer.

By paying for only the services you need, you are likely to spend far less money on your divorce than if you were to go the traditional route with each spouse hiring an expensive divorce attorney.

Pay as you go

Our costs are far lower than average, but we still understand that not everyone has the upfront cash to pay for, say, a $1,500 online divorce plan. That’s why we offer in-house financing to our customers. We’re proud to offer the option of installment payments so you don’t face a huge upfront. What’s more, you can upgrade or downgrade your plan (and its cost) at any time during your divorce process.

In short, with Hello Divorce, you retain control over what you spend and what you get. In turn, you feel in control of your entire divorce process … which helps you feel more in control of the chapters of your life that follow. So, if you want a team of friendly advocates behind you as you embark on this journey – and you want to have complete control over your money in the process – consider working with us.

A free 15-minute consultation with one of our knowledgeable account coordinators is just a click away. We welcome you to schedule a phone call so you can speak with one of our team members and learn more about how Hello Divorce can help you achieve the divorce (and the life) you’re dreaming of.
