What is mediation?
When you and your spouse want help getting to an agreement on divorce related issues (think: asset division, co-parenting schedule, spousal support) but don’t want to go to court and battle it out, mediation is a great option.
Our Cooperative Divorce plan includes the preparation and court filing of all divorce forms (including the agreement) plus 5 hours of mediation. We also offer Mediation ‘a la carte’ if you need some help resolving a couple issues before, during or after divorce.
Do you need a lawyer for mediation?
No. But if you want legal advice during the mediation process, you can schedule a session or two – either with a lawyer through Hello Divorce (both spouses would need to sign a conflict waiver) or an outside attorney you choose.
Are mediators also lawyers?
Some are. At Hello Divorce, our mediators are trained, neutral professionals that specialize in conflict resolution – especially when our customers have challenging interpersonal relationships or complicated finances.
We offer a range of mediators – from lawyers who take a more evaluative approach (“this is what the law says and how it might apply to you”) to therapists, alternative dispute resolution professionals and financial analysts who can help you to get to a win-win agreement that takes into account your needs and many of your wants.
Most importantly, mediation is not therapy – you don’t need to solve your relationship issues - you just get to work towards an agreement that feels fair to both of you.
